Weatherization Assistance Program
Program Basics
The Weatherization Assistance Program helps income-qualified families improve the energy efficiency of their
homes. Households earning at or below 200% of the federal poverty level, as defined by the U.S. Office of
Management and Budget, may be eligible. For approved homeowners and renters, all services are provided at
no direct cost. The program’s mission is to lower utility bills, conserve energy, and enhance the health and
safety of each dwelling unit.
Note: Owners of eligible rental properties may be responsible for covering 50% of the cost for capital
improvements.
Energy Conservation Measures
Once a licensed energy auditor completes a home energy assessment, eligible households may qualify for a
range of upgrades designed to improve comfort, safety, and efficiency. Common improvements include:
- Air sealing to reduce drafts and heat loss
- Installation of energy-efficient LED lighting
- Added insulation to maintain indoor temperatures
- Low-flow shower heads to conserve water
- Solar screens to block heat from windows
- Weather-stripping to seal doors and windows
Additional upgrades, such as HVAC systems, refrigerators, and water heaters may be repaired or replaced
based on program criteria. These measures are selected to enhance energy efficiency, promote health and
safety, and lower monthly utility costs.
